OK, I never know what's going to 'hit' me in a movie. Sometimes I watch perfectly good movies and come out not caring. Other times I fall in love with the one I wouldn't expect....

I watched four movies yesterday while sewing (and may I reiterate here how much I despise sewing on georgette). The Namesake was a good movie, although I dont know that I'll watch it again. Fantastic 4...meh. No Reservations was pretty much exactly as billed. Again, probably won't watch it again.

27 Dresses? For some reason, I loved this movie. Since I wasn't done, I watched it again. (I have the ability to do that....watch movies over and over and over.) I'm not certain exactly what it was the made the movie click for me, but this is one I'll definitely buy when I next find a copy for $5.

I really liked the scene where she tried all of the dressed on, and the "Benny and the Jets" scene. It was cute and funny.

I think the dress scene was my favorite, too!

...I suspect because it was the first time in the movie where you got to see them relax around each other, a fact I will have to remember for my own writing... ;o)

I loved the main character, she just was kind of self-less. She looked out for others more than herself, kinda refreshing in this day and age of overwhelming self interest.

That, and I had an ugly bridesmaid dress or two in my closet...

Oh, good grief....the bridesmaid dresses! Weren't some of them perfectly hideous?

I think I only did two stints as a bridesmaid, but as I recall, the dresses are always.....yeah...

I managed to sell the one from my sister's wedding, shoes and all, to a next door neighbor for her prom. Fit her like a glove, and was in style for its time...but a shade of pepto pink. I was afraid that I'd have that dress in my closet longer than the wedding would last.

The other dress was your typical late-eighties Laura Ashley type floral. I think I might of made pillows or something out of it.

After a fruitless search, through many catalogs, my bridesmaids were all well into their twenties and NOTHING was suitable, I had my bridesmaid's dresses made. Simple A-line seamed gowns in a deep gray matte satin...Fully lined, and yes, they were most definately worn again. One to the ballet, and one to the theater, (opening nights, both). Looked great with pearls...

So what's your trick in sewing georgette without puckers. I used tissue and it helped. But I just bought my dress for a wedding in August. Slip type with georgette overlay and a matching georgette jacket. You could make the thing for what I paid for it, on sale.

I have no secret....it looks bad, hence my frustrations with it. What I need is a serger, but I assure you I have no interest in buying one....

Why no serger? They're quick and efficient. Get one used. Some folks like to trade, "up," constantly. 10 years ago, after being rebuffed continually at a Bernina shop, I bought a 5 thread Singer with my last paycheck. I was sooo tempted to go back to the stuffy Bernina ladies to show it off...

I have trouble serging georgette though, chiffon too. My machine wanted to manhandle the material all the time. Ended up using a straight stich french seam. Maybe not technically appropriate, but it worked.

I just don't sew often enough to warrant the expenditure and the space.

Younger Daughter watches some movies over and over.

Is the skirt finished?
