I'm not very social. Somehow I've managed to overbook this week-end, though, with regularly scheduled events combined with a special one.

Thursday Night: Bunco 7-10
Saturday Morning: F&B writer's group 10-12
Saturday Night: Friend's BD party 7-9?10?
Sunday Night: BK Group 7-9

OK, it probably doesn't look so bad to you, but to me that's a whopping total of 10 hours! of being sociable (in addition to making Cream of Broccoli Soup on Sunday). I'm going to be worn out by the time the week-end's over.

On another note, people with nothing better to do with their time can go over to the Preditors and Editors Reader's Choice poll and vote for my story "Touching the Dead". Vote here. (If you liked it, that is...)

Ouch, when you add up the hours it seems much. We've attended six parties between the 21st and 31st of December, at least 5 hours each. That's ouch, 50 hours of writing time lost.

You butterfly you... we have weeks like that. It makes me appreciate the weekends like this where nothing happens.

Conventions are different for me. That's a concerted effort -- I save up all my social energy and dump it into a convention for 73 hours then hide under my bed for a week.

You're probably craving social interaction right now!

My wife is planning a superbowl party. Not only don't I care for sports, I can't help think of how much time I could be writing instead... Some weekends I can't wait for Monday. Somehow I find more time Monday through Friday to write. I did manage to get in 500 words Saturday.

Well, the marriage is more important, so suffer through it! Actually, I'm fortunate in that we don't watch much sports. I'm too impatient to sit through an entire game there days. ;o)

True...and my wife is indirectly responsible for the story that got finalist. Had not she had us going to NYC back in April for our anniversary, I would've never seen this woman screaming hysterical at this man on the corner, and the idea would've never come to me. So I do owe her--and not just for that. She's not into football per say. She just likes to watch the superbowl commercials.

You? The person who loves nothing more than to read before a crowd, has issues with social gatherings? I would think those two things are completely at odds. Any reason you can think of why such is the case?

Reading does not require social interaction. You're just reading words. You don't have to come up with clever things to say...

Also, my listening attention span is very short, so it's sometimes hard for me to follow someone's conversation. They'll be talking and The Simpsons is replaying in my head. I actually have to work at paying attention, so conversation is often tiring for me.

Just one of those things. It's good to know what your weaknesses are....
